Mt. Everest Expedition North Col

Mt.Everest is always been the goal to climb once in a lifetime by professional and non-professional mountaineers.

OVERVIEW

Mt. Everest Expedition via North Col first used this route by British Expeditions in mid 1920’s by British expedition teams led by George and Irving Mallory where the mystery still hangs till present whether they made it to the summit or not?. Whatever the story, it is still world’s highest mountain at 8,848 m since 1955 elevation as 8,848 m / 29,028 ft. later revised on Nov. 11, 1999 at 8,850 or 29,035 ft.

Using the North Col Route which makes much difference in climbing and duration as well with logistic and technical difficulties, from North Col where vehicles and Trucks with heavy equipment of climbing and camping with staff can reach at Base Camp. Which makes a large difference then carrying into base camps laden on beast of burden (Yaks) an d saves time for the expeditions, which is vital to climbers to make the trip affordable as well where route to Everest Base Camp and beyond to Advance Base Camp also known as Camp III of above 6,550 m high.

Where Yaks and normal walk can reach to its very bottom of the mountains onward base camp using few interim camps on route, this will provide much support in acclimatization and exercise for the climb. Mt. Everest Expedition via North Col to reach its base camp and beyond can be done with two alternatives either fly to Lhasa and drive towards base camp past few interesting cities of Gyantse and Shigatse.

Sherpa Climbing have set the itinerary using overland drive all the way from Kathmandu as it helps to ferry the heavy mountaineering equipments with camping gears and food as well to accommodate the Nepalese staff to led you all the way to the summit top of Mt. Everest. The old popular highway known as Nepal / Tibet-China Friendship or Arniko Highway been broken down with landslides of 2015 earthquakes, so another route has been made possible using the Kathmandu to Rasuwa district highway around Langtang and Central Himalaya.

Drive leads from Kathmandu heading through many farms villages and towns to reach cooler alpine zone at Langtang area and then heading further North to reach the frontier town of Nepal and Tibet / China at Kyirong country which is South Mid West of great Tibetan plateau. From Kyirong using new Trucks and four wheels from Tibetan side, as the drive carries on to reach our destination at Everest North Base Camp, past Pai-Gut Tsho large Lake with grand views of Langtang-Ganesh-Jugal with world’s last 14th Shisapangma at 8,013 m high, overland on vast Tibetan land regarded as World’s highest and largest plateau.

Reaching at main Nepal / Tibet-China Friendship road at Old Tingri and towards Shigatse with last overnight in a hotel, from here onward entering into Everest or Chomolungma areas over Pang-la pass with grand views of Everest-Lhotse-Cho-Oyu and Shisapangma with other range of peaks, as the drive leads past farm villages and towns to reach at Rongbuk Monastery. With time to visit the monastery of great interest journey continues reaching at Everest Base Camp with full views of Mt. Everest towards South East direction.

After a time at base camp leaving the driving road for complete wilderness heading towards Advance Base Camp or at Camp III for the final assault on top of the world Mt. Everest, before the climb with much preparations and acclimatization then in full spirit heading for vigorous climb with few technical difficulties in some section of the climb to reach at our goal and highlights of this memorable and marvelous climb on Mt. Everest Expedition via North Col.

Return on the same driving route back to Kathmandu with options for some interested climbers flying from Lhasa.

ITINERARY

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02-04: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Mt. Everest Expeditions.
Day 05: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m via Trisuli and Dhunche – 07 hrs.
Day 06: Drive to Kyirong 2,890 m (Kyidrong / Dzongga) County camp or in local Guesthouse.
Day 07: In Kyirong rest day for acclimatization.
Day 08: Drive to Shegar or New Tingri 4, 350 m – 05 hrs.
Day 09: Drive to Everest Base Camp 5,200 m via Rongbuk Monastery 4,950 m – 04 hrs.
Day 10: At base camp acclimatization and preparations.
Day 11-12: On Route to Advance Base Camp with Interim camps at 5,800m.
Day 13: Load the yaks and walk to ABC at above 6,550 m -04 hrs.
Day 14: At Advance Base Camp preparation for the climb.
Day 15-29: Ascent of Mt. Everest from North Col (15 days for summit top),
Day 30: Yaks arrive at ABC to return to base camp.
Day 31: Descend to base camp.
Day 32: Clean up the base camp and packing for return journey.
Day 33: Drive to Old Tingri 4,260 m – 04 hrs.
Day 34: Drive to Kyirong 2,890 m (Kyidrong–Dzongga) County camp or in local Guesthouse – 06 hrs.
Day 35: Drive to Dhunche town 1,950 m – 05 hrs.
Day 36: Drive back to Kathmandu – 05 hrs.
Day 37-39: In Kathmandu rest and submit expeditions report to concern department.
Day 40: International departure for home ward bound.
